Seshat AI is an educator-facing Socratic reasoning and critical-thinking support platform.

Educators use Seshat AI to:

  • Prepare critical-thinking classes and lesson plans

  • Generate Socratic discussion questions and instructional materials

  • Develop educational activities based on the Thot Cursus corpus

  • Analyze student essays, assignments, and written work

  • Support teacher reflection and assessment preparation

  • Explore relationships between student reasoning and educational frameworks

Seshat AI is designed around a teacher-mediated educational model.

Students do not create accounts or independently access Seshat AI.

Teachers and educators remain the point of interaction with the Platform and decide what educational content is submitted, reviewed, and shared with students.

Seshat AI is a teaching-support tool and does not replace educators, professional judgment, grading responsibility, or academic decision-making.

2. Privacy and Regulatory Framework

Seshat AI is designed to support educators and institutions in meeting their obligations under applicable privacy laws, including:

  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

  • The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), where applicable

  • The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

  • Other applicable student privacy and data protection regulations

Educational institutions and educators remain responsible for determining their legal obligations and appropriate use of the Platform within their educational context.

Seshat AI does not represent that use of the Platform alone satisfies all legal obligations applicable to a specific institution or jurisdiction.

3. Data Controller and Data Processor Roles

Depending on the context of use:

  • Educational institutions or educators act as the Data Controller or equivalent responsible party for student information they submit

  • Seshat AI acts as a Data Processor, service provider, or equivalent role where applicable

The educator or institution remains responsible for determining:

  • What information is appropriate to upload

  • Whether they have the necessary authority to submit educational content

  • Compliance with applicable institutional policies and laws

4. Student Access and Children's Information

Seshat AI is not designed for direct student use.

Students:

  • Do not create Seshat AI accounts

  • Do not independently access the Platform

Students may submit educational responses through teacher-initiated educational activities that are created, managed, and reviewed by educators.

Seshat AI is designed primarily for curriculum-based reasoning activities, including:

  • Analysis

  • Argumentation

  • Critical thinking

  • Discussion preparation

  • Structured reflection

The Platform is not intended for collecting:

  • Personal narratives

  • Diaries or journals

  • Psychological reflections

  • Health information

  • Other sensitive personal content unrelated to educational reasoning activities

Educators should review student submissions before uploading them and avoid submitting unnecessary personal information.

Depending on how educators use the Platform, Seshat AI may process:

The current AI provider used by Seshat AI is OpenAI.

Under OpenAI's applicable business and API terms, customer content submitted through the services used by Seshat AI is not used by OpenAI to train its models by default.

If Seshat AI changes AI providers or materially changes its data-processing practices in a way that affects customer information, users will be informed through updated policies, agreements, or other appropriate communications.

10. Transparency and Educational Output Review

Seshat AI provides AI-assisted educational outputs intended to support educator decision-making.

Seshat AI does not autonomously assign grades or make final academic decisions.

Any assessment-related output is intended as draft assistance for educator review.

Educators remain responsible for reviewing AI-generated materials before classroom use.

Seshat AI periodically reviews educational outputs and reasoning frameworks to improve:

  • Balance

  • Diversity of perspectives

  • Alignment with educational objectives

11. Data Storage and Retention

Educational content is retained while an account remains active or as necessary to provide the service.

Users may request deletion at any time.

Seshat AI may establish retention periods or deletion practices as the Platform evolves.

Currently:

  • Account deletion removes associated account data and related stored information

  • Users may request deletion of specific information without deleting their entire account

  • Backup copies may remain temporarily according to backup retention procedures

Seshat AI currently maintains daily backups through its infrastructure providers, with backups retained according to provider settings and operational requirements.

Users may request deletion of their information.

Deletion requests may include:

  • Uploaded educational content

Seshat AI will process deletion requests within a reasonable timeframe, subject to:
